A month of travelling

September started with Jim and I travelling to Gananoque, Ontario which is situated on the St Lawrence River and is the gateway to the incredibly beautiful Thousand Islands. Jim's sister Judy and her husband Gordon picked us up at the Toronto airport and after a 3.5 hour drive, we arrived in Gananoque. What a gorgeous part of our country! Jim and Judy's parents were born in Gananoque and their father so very thoughtfully put aside money in a special account for us to travel there to spread their ashes in front of the old Canoe Club where he and his beloved wife fell in love over 60 years ago. As children, Jim and Judy spent their summer holidays in Gananoque - it was Jim's first time back as an adult - what a treat for him to see his cousins and other family members after so many years. Jim's cousin Bev, and her husband Jim, took us on a scenic boat tour around the islands. We stopped in at their summer cabin on a tiny island:

The next day we visited the farm where Jim's mom grew up - incredibly, most of the buildings are still standing:

After a few days of visiting Jim's relatives, Judy and Gordon drove us to the train station where Jim and I caught a train to Old Montreal. What an incredible city! We stayed at Auberge Bonaparte, a beautiful 31 room inn with a 5 star restaurant attached. A delicious breakfast was included every morning - what an excellent choice we made to stay there. The food was so fabulous that we had dinner there two times. We both highly recommend the hotel and restaurant to anyone visiting Old Montreal.
Here is a view from our hotel room:

We loved walking for hours and hours on the streets of Old Montreal:

Both of us are looking forward to making another trip there. It's a wonderful place to visit.
