Books, books, and more books

One thing my daughters and I have in common is our love of reading. On a recent visit here my younger daughter, Elizabeth, mentioned how difficult it is to find books that appeal to her at the library. When I lived in Victoria I had the same problem since most of the newer and bestselling titles were always checked out, so I started reserving online and from that day forward had stacks of books to read. I asked Liz if she was familiar with the online reserve system at the Victoria Public Library, and since she wasn't, I set her up on my computer and wrote down her password. Now I can reserve all of the books and videos that I've loved and think she'll also enjoy - all for free! Liz gets a phone call when something is ready for pickup at her local branch of the library - she's in 7th heaven with so much to read! The Victoria Public Library is awesome. Unfortunately we don't have a similar system here in the Kootenays, so I buy all of the books I read. Although it's expensive, it's a good thing because I'm supporting authors, publishers, and our local independent bookstores.
Some titles I've put on hold for Liz that I've recently read and highly recommend are:
Bel Canto, Ann Patchett
A Northern Light, Jennifer Donnelly
I am David, Anne Holm
My Turquoise Years: a Memoir, M.A.C. Farrant
